The UNI-Dome opened Feb. 7, 1976. It serves as a multipurpose stadium today for wrestling tournaments, track and field, softball and football.

The capacity of the UNI-Dome is 16,324. The UNI-Dome has a capacity record of 17,190 set Oct. 17, 2009, against Southern Illinois.

The UNI-Dome has served as a concert venue hosting artists such as The Grateful Dead, Luke Bryan, Nelly, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones.

West Gym

West Gym

Nestled in the heart of UNI's picturesque campus is the West Gymnasium - the current competition site for Panther wrestling. It previously was used for volleyball and women's basketball.

Built in 1925 for a mere $180,000, the West Gym is an intimidating place for opposing teams to compete. With an intimate seating capacity of 2,100, the West Gym not only fills up quickly - it gets very, very loud.

In 2020 UNI Wrestling hosted #3 Nebraska, #19 Missouri, #8 Oklahoma State and West Virginia and finished the year ranked in the Top 15.

University of Northern Iowa to Build Private-Funded Court Sports Training Facility

The University of Northern Iowa received permission from the Iowa Board of Regents to begin planning a court sports training facility for the Panthers men's and women's basketball programs, as well as UNI's volleyball team. The development of this complex will provide a dedicated practice space to these programs that currently share court time at the McLeod Center and UNI's Wellness and Recreation Center.

With this approval from the Board of Regents, UNI can begin the necessary planning to evaluate potential designs that could be scaled to the size and scope that fundraising efforts permit. This building will be solely financed by private gifts.

This new facility will meet the existing and anticipated future needs of three of UNI's most visible and successful Missouri Valley Conference athletic programs, providing practice courts, along with locker rooms, a training room and rehabilitation area. UNI and experienced architects will collaborate on potential concepts that align with projected fundraising targets for the project.
