About UNI



The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) is a public university in Cedar Falls, Iowa. For more than 120 years, the University of Northern Iowa has fostered a premier learning and teaching environment. While emphasizing undergraduate education, UNI offers graduate programs at the master’s, specialist’s and doctoral levels.

UNI offers nearly 160 majors, minors and areas of study across the colleges of Business Administration, Education, Health and Human Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts, Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences and Graduate College.  

In the Fall 2024, UNI will begin offering an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Also in 2024, UNI will be adding a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science & Engineering as well as a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science Engineering Technology.  An education from UNI can set you up for future success—no matter what your ultimate goals are.  

The University of Northern Iowa is ranked second in the "Best Regional Universities (Midwest)" category for public universities, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2020 "America's Best Colleges" guidebook. UNI was also 20th on a combined list of all public and private Midwest regional universities.  UNI was also named the best public college in Iowa for getting a job with a 94% job placement rate.

Students love our perfect-sized campus and nationally recognized academic offerings. As a teaching-focused university, UNI's faculty and staff put students first.  The enrollment at UNI continues to hover right around the 10,000 students mark.
